Extruder and Die-Making Course

Description:

The course is devoted to the design and making of extrusions. This course begins at 10am on the Monday morning and will finish at about 1pm on Friday afternoon. We will examine various types of extruders, (including possibilities for DIY enthusiasts to make their own).

Instructions will be offered for creating dies of all kinds. Tubes, dishes and those that will aid construction (Profiled coils, slabs, strips and hollow forms) and improve details (Rims, handles, feet and other elements). Various combinations and construction techniques will be demonstrated. Appropriate clay and clay preparation will also be discussed. In addition to extruded pots, coil pots, slab ware and even your throwing can be helped by intelligent use of extruded clay.

CLAY AND DIE MAKING MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED.

Meals are also included.

What to bring:

  • Small saw/files may come in handy
  • Sketch pad and drawing materials
  • Camera
  • Note pad and pen
  • Apron or overalls and towel
